Healthcare

Connect your building and its energy to the care your patients receive.

The hands-on course on the largest and most measurable part of a hospital's footprint: its buildings and the energy that runs them. Use less energy, then cleaner energy, run heating, cooling, and ventilation within the safety limits a hospital must keep, save water as a co-benefit, and finish by starting your own facility baseline from real utility bills.

Some of the organizations we’ve worked with.

What you’ll be able to do.

Why it matters now

For most hospitals, energy is the largest, most measurable source of emissions they control, and it's right there on the utility bills. For a hospital preparing for SHC, it's where the baseline starts and where savings show up first, in emissions and in cost.

Who it’s for

Written first for hospital facilities managers, and for the quality leads and executives who work with them on SHC readiness. You know your building; no technical background is needed. Builds on the language from Course 1.

Five lessons, from the meter to your first measurement.

  1. 01

    Using Energy Efficiently

Why energy is the biggest source a hospital controls, how to read energy use intensity, and where to save first, including when you use energy, not just how much.

  2. 02

    Cleaner Energy

Make the energy you still use cleaner, made on-site or bought with care, and weigh renewable claims you can stand behind, with Kaiser Permanente's path to carbon neutral.

  3. 03

    Smart Systems and Safe Air

Make heating, cooling, and ventilation more efficient without crossing the safety limits that protect patients, from control systems to operating room setbacks.

  4. 04

    Water: Saving It Safely

Where hospitals use water, how saving it also saves energy, why safety comes first, and where water fits (and doesn't) in certification.

  5. 05

    Taking Your First Measurement

Connect the building back to patients and resilience, then turn your utility bills into the start of your facility's baseline.

Trusted training, aligned with the standards that matter.

Green My Experience is a specialist sustainability training platform, and part of the Overview Effect sustainability portfolio. This series is built around SHC certification — what it asks of a hospital, how its review works, and what a hospital has to be able to show. Every course is built by a dedicated learning team and grounded in real hospital systems, so what you learn is practical, current, and defensible.

GME's learning initiatives are led by Overview Effect, the founder-led sustainability portfolio behind the platform. Its leadership brings hands-on experience across sustainability strategy, carbon markets, and building purpose-driven businesses — so the training reflects how sustainability actually works in practice, not just in theory.

Your courses are created by GME's learning team — instructional designers and sustainability specialists who turn complex frameworks into practical, applied learning you can use the same week.

You'll earn a verifiable Certificate of Completion.

Add it to your LinkedIn profile and résumé, share it with clients and employers, and use it as evidence of verified sustainability training. There is no final exam in this course; the series Capstone is the summative piece.

This certifies you, not your hospital. The hospital earns SHC certification; this series prepares the practitioner who helps it get there.

Questions, answered.

01Do I need to take Course 1 first?

Yes. This course builds on the measurement language (GWP, MTCO2e, scopes) and the SHC structure from Sustainability Essentials for Healthcare.

02Do I need my hospital's utility bills?

They help with the baseline worksheet in Lesson 5, but you can complete the course without them and fill in your numbers later.

03Will these savings put patient safety at risk?

No. Every measure in this course is taught inside its clinical safety limit, for air and for water. The course never asks you to trade safety for savings.

04How much time will this take me?

About 45 to 55 minutes across five short lessons, designed for one or two sittings. Lifetime access means you can come back to it anytime.

05How long do I have access?

Lifetime access. Enroll once and return whenever you need it — handy as a refresher and for onboarding new team members later.

06Do I need prior experience or sustainability knowledge to take this course?

None. This is the foundation course for the series and assumes no sustainability background — it builds the vocabulary from zero. If you work in a hospital and know your own operation, that is all you need.

07What teaching methods and assessments will be used in this course?

Short readings paired with a knowledge check in each lesson, plus scenario questions that put you in a decision a hospital actually faces. There is no exam and the checks are not scored — they are there to help you learn.

08Do I need any special software or equipment for this course?

Since our courses are fully online, you’ll just need a computer or tablet with internet access. No special software licenses are required—everything you need is accessible through your browser. If you have any specific questions about technical requirements, feel free to reach out!

09Who are the facilitators for this course?

Our courses are designed by experienced instructional designers who specialize in making sustainability education both effective and enjoyable. While the courses are fully online, you can learn more about the talented team behind them on our About page, where we share their backgrounds, qualifications, and the unique expertise they bring to the table.

10Can I take more than one course at a time, or will they clash with each other?

Our courses are designed to be flexible, so you can take multiple courses at once without any scheduling conflicts. Plus, each course is self-contained and doesn’t require prior experience or knowledge from other courses, making it easy to jump in and start learning.

11Is the certificate recognized?

You earn a verifiable Certificate of Completion from Green My Experience, issued instantly on completion. It is shareable on LinkedIn and on your résumé, and demonstrates verified sustainability training to employers, boards and partners.
