Healthcare

Follow the carbon that moves with care itself, and with everyone around your hospital.

The course on the emissions that come from care itself and the movement around a hospital. See why some anesthetic gases and inhalers carry an outsized carbon cost, shape the fleet and deliveries your hospital controls, and be honest about which journeys count toward SHC, with clinical judgment first at every step.

Some of the organizations we’ve worked with.

What you’ll be able to do.

Why it matters now

Some of the largest single carbon reductions open to a hospital start with clinical decisions, and health systems are already acting on them: in 2023, Scotland became the first country to stop using the anesthetic gas desflurane across its national health service. For a hospital preparing for SHC, knowing these levers, and who owns them, is what turns a measured baseline into a credible plan.

Who it’s for

Written for clinical leaders in anesthesia, pharmacy, respiratory care, and perioperative services, and for the sustainability leads and operations staff who work with them. Clinical readers will find their safety-first language from the first slide; non-clinical readers will see why the biggest carbon levers sit inside clinical decisions they don't make alone. Builds on Courses 1 and 2.

Four lessons, from the operating room to the hospital's front door.

  1. 01

    Anesthetic Gases

Why two gases that do largely the same clinical job can differ greatly in climate impact, what hospitals have already achieved, and why the choice of agent always belongs to the anesthesia team. Co-authored with an anesthesiologist.

  2. 02

    Inhalers

Why many inhalers use a propellant that is itself a greenhouse gas, how inhaler types compare, and the clinical boundary around any switch. Co-authored with a pharmacist or respiratory lead.

  3. 03

    Fleet and Logistics

The vehicles your hospital owns, from ambulances to courier vans, and the deliveries that feed every department: where they fit in certification, with a real electric-ambulance example.

  4. 04

    Staff Commute and Patient Access

Where commuting and patient travel fit among a hospital's emissions, what a hospital can influence, and why they are co-benefits rather than SHC sources.

Need the whole picture?

Trusted training, aligned with the standards that matter.

Green My Experience is a specialist sustainability training platform, and part of the Overview Effect sustainability portfolio. This series is built around SHC certification — what it asks of a hospital, how its review works, and what a hospital has to be able to show. Every course is built by a dedicated learning team and grounded in real hospital systems, so what you learn is practical, current, and defensible.

GME's learning initiatives are led by Overview Effect, the founder-led sustainability portfolio behind the platform. Its leadership brings hands-on experience across sustainability strategy, carbon markets, and building purpose-driven businesses — so the training reflects how sustainability actually works in practice, not just in theory.

Your courses are created by GME's learning team — instructional designers and sustainability specialists who turn complex frameworks into practical, applied learning you can use the same week.

  • Built around SHC certification and what it asks of a hospital
  • Built by a specialist sustainability learning team
  • Applied, hands-on methodology — built for results, not theory

You'll earn a verifiable Certificate of Completion.

Finish the course and you receive a Green My Experience Certificate of Completion, issued instantly. Add it to your LinkedIn profile and résumé, share it with clients and employers, and use it as evidence of verified sustainability training. There is no final exam in this course; the series Capstone is the summative piece.

This certifies you, not your hospital. The hospital earns SHC certification; this series prepares the practitioner who helps it get there.

Questions, answered.

01Do I need to take Courses 1 and 2 first?

Yes. This course builds on the measurement language and SHC structure from Course 1, and on the building context and baseline worksheet you started in Course 2.

02I'm not a clinician. Is this course for me?

Yes. Every lesson is written for clinical and non-clinical readers alike. Sustainability and operations staff will see why the biggest carbon levers sit inside clinical decisions, and how to work with the clinicians who own them.

03Will this course tell clinicians which drugs or inhalers to use?

No. Clinical decisions always belong to the clinical team. The clinical lessons are co-authored with specialists and explain the carbon picture; they never ask anyone to trade patient care for a lower footprint.

04How much time will this take me?

About 45 to 55 minutes across five short lessons, designed for one or two sittings. Lifetime access means you can come back to it anytime.

05How long do I have access?

Lifetime access. Enroll once and return whenever you need it — handy as a refresher and for onboarding new team members later.

06Do I need prior experience or sustainability knowledge to take this course?

None. This is the foundation course for the series and assumes no sustainability background — it builds the vocabulary from zero. If you work in a hospital and know your own operation, that is all you need.

07What teaching methods and assessments will be used in this course?

Short readings paired with a knowledge check in each lesson, plus scenario questions that put you in a decision a hospital actually faces. There is no exam and the checks are not scored — they are there to help you learn.

08Do I need any special software or equipment for this course?

Since our courses are fully online, you’ll just need a computer or tablet with internet access. No special software licenses are required—everything you need is accessible through your browser. If you have any specific questions about technical requirements, feel free to reach out!

09Who are the facilitators for this course?

Our courses are designed by experienced instructional designers who specialize in making sustainability education both effective and enjoyable. While the courses are fully online, you can learn more about the talented team behind them on our About page, where we share their backgrounds, qualifications, and the unique expertise they bring to the table.

10Can I take more than one course at a time, or will they clash with each other?

Our courses are designed to be flexible, so you can take multiple courses at once without any scheduling conflicts. Plus, each course is self-contained and doesn’t require prior experience or knowledge from other courses, making it easy to jump in and start learning.

11Is the certificate recognized?

You earn a verifiable Certificate of Completion from Green My Experience, issued instantly on completion. It is shareable on LinkedIn and on your résumé, and demonstrates verified sustainability training to employers, boards and partners.
